Journey to the South!
Saturday 11th Dec
We set off on a fast ferry from Wellington to Picton (on the South Island) at 8am! The waves coming out of the harbour were huuuge rollers, like being on a rollercoaster, and we both felt really queasy! Didn't help that we'd had about 4 hours sleep and Jen had had loads of free booze the night before!
We picked up a hire car in Picton and cruised (slightly too fast - eh, Nige?!) down the east coast to Kaikoura, famous for whales and dolphins. We met up with Debs and Neil in the town car park - very bizarre to meet people from home on the other side of the world in a random car park! We went for lunch and caught up with all the news of their travels so far.
We spent a couple of hours walking off our lunch on the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway, spotting some seals on the rocks in the distance - At last we've seen these elusive creatures - third time lucky!!
The views back inland to the Kaikoura Ranges were amazing, even with cloud covering the tops - we'll definitely have to come back on a clear day - allegedly the best view in New Zealand!!
Together again!
