Gondola, luge and Arrowtown
On our first full day in Queenstown, the sun was shining, so we decided to go up the gondola with Katie to see the views over the town and the lake. However, the queue for the gondola was huge as everyone else had the same idea, so we headed off up the mountain track to walk to the top!
The trek up took an hour, and the views from the top were well worth it. It is such a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and a huge lake (the second largest in New Zealand after Lake Taupo).
After admiring the views, we climbed still further up the hill, this time by chairlift, and had a couple of goes on the luge - once on the scenic route and once on the fast route! Very cool!
We ate lunch in the sun at Montys with Sally, explored the shops and then went for a drive to Arrowtown, an historic gold-mining town with a really cute main street of old wooden buildings. We didn't quite have the energy to pan for gold, so we went for a wee walk along the river and watched other people instead!
